There's a scene in the ep Lesser of Two Evils where Graham is allowing himself to be shackled to the rack in Arcane's old cave, and he comes out with the filthiest laugh I have ever heard. I mean, Benny Hill? A child's giggle. Sid James? A mere chuckle of amusement. Graham's is... terrifying... It inspired this fic.

If you read the Zone Doubt blog you'll know allllll about my rediscovered passion for Mark Lindsay Chapman, especially as the character of Anton Arcane from the Swamp Thing TV series. (Arcane is probably the prettiest - and almost certainly the sexiest - villain of all time.)

Well, there are now two new fics, Broken - which, while somewhat risqué, is nominal pre-slash and in the fiction zone, and Lost, which is rather more adult and in the passworded section over in The (other) Zone on the WaveWrights site. I am planning two more (at least!) once I've re-watched the series (at Yule) and also a proper intro to the series, with links to other sites and information, but I haven't had time to create them yet - soon, I hope. I will also, hopefully, post some pics...

Anyone who has visited the password protected section of WaveWrights in the last month or so will probably have noted the PayPal 'donate' button there - and much as I'd rather not ask, the accompanying blurb basically says it all:

If you have enjoyed the stories here, please consider making a small donation to help keep The Zone going: this website is expensive to run, and if we have to downsize, unfortunately the password protected section would have to be the first to go. (Also, if I know people are reading here, I will be encouraged to write more stories!)

The (other) Zone has well over 400 members with access - not sure how many, might be heading for 500; I gave up counting several years ago when I stopped sending out update emails. If even half of that number donated just £1, or $1, it would be enough to keep The Zone going for almost another two years - and reassure me that people still enjoy the writing there. If there's no interest, unless things pick up (or we win the lottery) when the hosting sub falls due later this year I'll migrate the site to the Supanames server. Supanames do not allow any 'adult' material on their sites, so The Zone (Darkside, Rogue Lemons et al) will have to go, although a tiny handful of the stories there will still be found on FFNet and Adult FFNet.

Finally got around to finishing - well, not completely finishing, as it's a bit of an ongoing story - Jade's journal in the Cyber City Oedo 808 section of the Zone. It started out as a blog hosted on the WaveWrights site so I could keep it passworded, but logging in then ftp-ing to WW was such a bloody nuisance I gave up (and I wouldn't even try after what they've done to blogger) so I've rewritten the code to resemble the original blog but made the page read downwards like a normal story. There's more to come, and I'd like to redo the pic, but it's a good start.

I've deleted the old Zone, Darkside, Darkrealm etc directories from WordWrights: you won't be able to get to them from here, there or anywhere!

... for the dearth of updates. I've been busy whipping a commissioned joint non-fic book (due to be published Feb 06) into shape, and the publishers have now asked for a proposal and chapter outline for a followup. We've also been asked to read and endorse a forthcoming book from the US publishers of Clairvoyance, and I have the sheer pleasure of pre-reading (and hopefully providing a little review that could be used on the back cover) the second edition of Hal Spacejock. Anybody who reads The Zone blog, and/or my reviews on SF Crowsnest, will know that I love the Hal Spacejock novels, and reading the new edition will be a delight!

I've also had enquiries about designing/managing three new websites. And I'm still working on Haadri. So I'm very much afraid I have no time to write any fanfic at the moment...

It occurs to me that finishing the AC and almost finishing Dystopia before all this landed in my lap was an amazing case of accidental good timing!

Valkyrie created a beautiful birthday card for me (Jade and Benten); Lutra commented that they'd make beautiful mermen (well, merbois anyway); and I was idly looking through the collection of Jonathan Cummings jpgs I've copied from the Webshots site - always inspirational - and the usual happened...

SirenSong, an AU Jade/Benten story, is posted in two places: in the Flight and Fancy fiction section at JAT (that's the non-graphic one) and in The Zone on the WaveWrights site (that's the graphic, adults-only version).
It's my version of a fluffy PWP, and was great fun to write! It also took less than five hours to complete while chatting to Lutra, which isn't too bad for a pointless short...

I've now posted Band in The Vault...

Originally written in the summer of 2004, this story is an AU Cyber City Oedo 808 fic, inspired partly by an old picture by Valkyrie and partly by This is Spinal Tap, with the main CCO808 characters metamorphosed into a rock group. It's not necessary to know the anime to enjoy the fic, which is lewd, rude, and full of innuendo and colourful language! Definitely adult-rated, but not as graphic as the stories in the passworded sections, which is why it's in The Vault. It has a great illustration by Valkyrie, too!

Party!, the multiple crossover end-of-2004 celebratory joint ficlet, now finished and posted in The Zone. It's a little shorter than I'd originally intended, and less graphic, but I think it's quite fun. Especially given I lost impetus and enthusiasm half way through!

Thanks to Lutra for her help, in writing the fic and for plot (plot? what plot? [smirk]) suggestions!

LotR - Little Birds pt 5

Little Birds pt 5 now posted!

This ends the story, although there may be a little Epilogue after Yule, if we can find the time to write it!

Little Birds is over a hundred pages long, novella-length and written in a month - not bad for what started as a short story and Lutra's first foray into writing in a genre she loathes. (Maybe that should be loathed?)

I've really enjoyed it!

Also hoping to have the next Matrix Twins chapter, Dare, written before the New Year. The Party will now be a New Year Party, not a Yuletide one.
